Kids always love to think about Christmas, not only because of presents but also the closeness of family and friends and, of course, the amazing food. Christmas is a beautiful holiday enjoyed every year. There always seems to be an item that ranks at the top of everyone’s present list, mine was Beyblades. As we approach Christmas, many gift ideas are in the air. Video game consoles are always a hit, Xbox 360 being sold the most. Alongside these consoles are its games, which cost anywhere from $10-$250. Rock Band, Guitar Hero and sports games will likely be the best sellers. When buying in the video game business, parents shouldn’t expect to get many bargains because this industry is expensive. Clothes are also on the list. A winter coat, new boots or even a new hat are ranked at the top of some lists. Parents buying their children clothes can definitely find bargains. Chain stores like Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, American Eagle and Forever 21 all offer holiday sales. Parents will need to research and find out about the sales fast before everyone else gets to them first. Remote control cars, Bakugan, dolls, trading cards and makeup kits will likely rake up a lot of dollars from parents all across the nation. Parents are just hoping that their efforts pay off on Christmas day when their children open their presents.

I love the winter time because I don’t like to sweat and be hot. When it’s cold outside, it makes me feel better, gives me energy and keeps me in a good mood. Football is a lot more fun when it’s cold, or at least it is for me because the pads are really hot and I run out of energy when it gets hot. There are lots of things I like to do when it’s cold outside. I like getting up early in the morning to go deer hunting. I enjoy just being in the woods, and I also love seeing deer and hopefully getting a nice one. I hunt all through bow, black powder and rifle season. I am thankful I get to do that while it’s cold during hunting season. Another hobby I have during the winter is duck hunting. It’s really fun and very exciting. One thing about duck hunting is that you usually get one duck. If it’s a good day you’ll get your limit. Turkey season is fun too, but it starts to warm up. Deer hunting is my favorite, but I like it all. I enjoy coming to school in the winter because I feel good, I’m in a good mood and I am ready to learn. I love the cold weather and always will.

Semester tests are something students in high school dislike. These tests are actually very important for our semester grades. They can make or break a student. Hugo High School’s upcoming semester tests are scheduled for Dec. 14-18. Studying for semester tests is what teachers prepare us for all year long. Long hours of hard work and good study habits can result in great scores on semester tests. Pay attention in class. Try to take notes to study at the end of the nine weeks. Using study materials helps you with homework and many other assignments throughout the year. Keeping a folder or tabs for each class is also a good idea. It is a great way for you to keep organized all year long. Make sure you label all of your folders correctly. Being organized is very important for your schoolwork. Remember to pay attention in class and ask for help when it is needed. Schedule time to study for your semester tests. Set aside time to study notes and review chapters for each class you attend. Highlight all important names, dates, events and locations. This should help you when studying. Make a list of important questions or use the provided study guide and practice answering those questions with a friend. If you start preparing now for the semester tests, you will be amazed at your progress and improvement. Your grades will soar, and you will be pleased with your achievement. Good studying and good luck.

I think it would be very helpful if all students had an iPhone because it has a lot of features that can help a student with school work. One feature that I use everyday is the notes. This is where I can list items I need to buy, errands I need to run and homework I need to finish, or future important dates. This feature keeps my life organized and helps me stay current with my to-do list. An interesting fact for parents is that iPhones can have the complete Bible, along with many other books, downloaded and ready for quick reference. From a safety viewpoint, the iPhone can keep a student safe by accessing the weather bug application, which is free and keeps us informed on any bad weather conditions. Students have access to free GPS services in case they ever get lost. Another feature that can be really helpful is the voice recorder; it is the equivalent to a regular voice recorder. For entertainment purposes, an iPhone is priceless. A person can log onto the Fandango application, check movie times and actually purchase tickets. Of course, every student will enjoy playing the numerous games offered. Students could also keep in close contact with friends and family with this amazing device. A person can also log onto iTunes and download music and movies to watch. No other phone, so far, integrates the computer with phone functions like the iPhone has done. The cost has decreased since the first production. Starting with the 8 GB phone the price is around $100 with an existing contract with AT&T. The 16 GB is $200 with contract, while the 32 GB is $300 with a contract. Parents looking for the perfect Christmas gift, the iPhone is it.

Computer problems are such hassles. Everyone hates when their computer is having problems such as being slow or having a virus. The Hugo School District has three people just to deal with computer issues. The Department of Technology is run by Mark Eby, Travis Daughenbaugh and James Dunlap. Their office/workstation is located at the Hugo Alternative School. Eby is the current director. He is in charge of managing the school servers. He also assists the school staff with technical problems such as login problems with MASS (grade keeping program). Daughenbaugh manages problems that occur at Hugo High School and Hugo Junior High. “I’m looking forward to the network changes, which will allow for more computers on the network and will allow teachers to use media; this should make our network faster,” Daugenbaugh said. Dunlap is the newest computer technician. He manages all problems at Hugo Intermediate School and Hugo Elementary School. On occasion, all three of the technicians work together on special projects. This past summer they brought every computer in the Hugo Intermediate School and the Hugo Junior High back to their office for re-programming. They also did this to take inventory. They are currently programming 100 new laptops for the Hugo School District. They also have laptop carts, which will be set up at each school as well. Eby, Daughenbaugh and Dunlap work every school day and have the same holidays as normal school staff. They also work during the summer, which is when they get most of the work done. They also fix personal computers on the side on their off hours. They can help you with problems ranging from virus damage to re-programming your computer. They also build custom computers if you are in need of one. If you have a computer problem, they can help you with it after their work hours.
