This year, the Hugo Intermediate School is ready for some fun. Hugo Intermediate School is a place where every student should feel like they belong. They have activities and events in which each student can participate.
The fourth and fifth grade Buffs begin the new year with fun. The intermediate school has a new principal, Mrs. Bohanan, a former teacher for the Hugo Intermediate School. She knows the student body and is familiar with the faculty and staff. She is very friendly and easy to approach for both parents and students. Her goals for this year are getting CRT scores up and trying to get the students to work together.
From the students’ perspective; the intermediate school is organized and enjoyable. They are hoping to add the possibility of basketball this year. After lunch, they have time to play tether ball, basketball, baseball, volleyball and flag football or just hang around and visit with friends.
Currently there are 166 students enrolled in the intermediate school.  These students are excited to participate in Black and Gold Week starting on Sept. 4 and continuing every Friday. The class with the most students wearing black and gold get ice cream on Monday.
There were all smiles for school picture day on Sept. 8. Parent’s Days were Sept. 3, 4 and 17. Parents are encouraged to come and talk to the faculty about the students’ progress.
There is one new teacher at Hugo Intermediate School. We would love to welcome the new fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Burnett. She is excited to join the present faculty and help the students raise their CRT scores and help them learn how to work together. The students will strengthen their social skills and get help with homework and projects during the after school program called Prime Time. Prime Time starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Overall, there is a bright school year ahead for the students of the Hugo Intermediate School. Parents are always encouraged to volunteer and help create a fun learning environment.
