City of Hugo continues to struggle with timely audit filings

HDN-2014-07-29.inddHUGO — For the sixth year in a row, the City of Hugo has failed to comply with the timely filing of its annual audit as required by state law. Each year the city has six months from the end of the fiscal year (June 30) to contract with an approved auditing firm and complete the required audit.
According to the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s office, The State of Oklahoma began withholding the city’s gasoline excise tax in January, 2014 due to the city’s noncompliance with the state’s Municipal Budget Act. As a result, the State has withheld six months of fuel excise taxes totaling $4,468.87.
