The Hugo Daily News encourages readers to submit Letters to the Editor.
All letters submitted for publication must conform to the following
guidelines:
Letters should be neatly handwritten, typed, or emailed and be written by
area residents. Letters written by those living outside Choctaw County will
be considered for publication provided the topic has significant local
interest.
All letters must be signed with the writer's name and include a verifiable
address and phone number. Letters which are not signed with a verifiable
name, address and phone number are discarded. The editor will review all
letters submitted for publication. In certain cases, a writer's name will be
withheld from publication at request of the author. That determination will
be made at the discretion of the editor or publisher. The letter's author
will be notified in the event the letter does not comply with established
policies or fairness.
All letters must be written in good taste. Libelous or defamatory letters
directed at an individual, business or private enterprise will not be
published.
The Hugo News reserves the right to refuse election-related letters during
political campaigns.
The Letters-to-the-Editor column cannot be used for thank you notes. To
place a thank-you ad, contact the advertising department or the front desk.
All letters are subject to editing for spelling, grammar and length.
Letters of excessive length (over 500 words) are generally declined.
Letters of appreciation or announcements will be published based on
individual merit.
Consumer complaints are not published.
No more than one letter from the same writer will be published within a
one-month period. Writers stating an opinion should expect rebuttal viewpoints.
All letters received become the property of the Hugo Daily News and will
not be returned to authors.
