Harrison hired as new superintendent during special board meeting

HUGO –– Members of the Hugo Board of Education voted to restructure its members during a special meeting Tuesday evening.
After Dr. Mike Irvin made the motions to appoint Shane Spillman as president, Marty Clinton as vice president and Jeff White as board clerk, the board convened into executive session for an hour and a half discussion regarding employment of the superintendent position for 2014-2015.
Upon a motion by Clinton, it was decided to employ current high school principal Tod Harrison as the superintendent of Hugo Schools for the next two incoming years. Harrison was previously hired by the district in 2013 to act as high school principal.
Also approved by the board during the special meeting Tuesday, was its decision to uphold disciplinary action by middle school administration regarding an incident which occurred with a student at a basketball game.
The District Teacher of the Year was announced Tuesday evening. Elementary teacher Jennifer Moyer was given this honor. Other teachers nominated were Karen Jones, Anthony Lewis and Tammie Gilbert.
