HUGO — Kevin Scott Warford, 37, of Hugo, has been charged with second-degree burglary, knowingly concealing stolen property and endangering human lives during commission of arson in connection with a stolen safe from Assembly of God Church. Undersheriff Terry Park and Hugo Police Chief Jon Paul Bozeman investigated a break-in at the Assembly of God Church on Highway 271 Monday morning. Park said the suspect had stolen the church’s safe filled with offerings from Sunday morning’s service sometime late Sunday night and early Monday morning. The officers narrowed the suspects to those who handled the church’s money and had access to the safe. Warford had been one of those people and had quit the church weeks prior to the incident, Park said. Park interviewed Warford Monday morning and found that his shoe tracks matched that of footprints left at the scene. By Monday afternoon, Judge Jamie Wolfe signed a search warrant for Warford’s residence on the 600 block of East Central. Jamming out in the garage isn’t just for poor renditions of “Free Bird” or “Back in Black.” For Hugo band Adjourned, it’s about coming together to create original Christian rock music. It all started when guitarists and good friends Collin Houchen and John Carpenter decided to enter into the Hugo Middle School talent show in eighth grade. “That didn’t go so well,” Carpenter said with a laugh. However, they didn’t let it get them down and instead it encouraged them to practice harder. Over the years, the band has grown. Members now include Houchen, guitar; Carpenter, guitar and back up vocals; Adrian Zen, lead singer and acoustic; Luke Lawrenson, keyboard and acoustic; Josh “Remo” Ostrey, drums; and Matt Bell, bass. Now with six members, they are set to perform live Sunday, Aug. 29 as an opening for Arkansas Christian alternative rock band Spoken. Adjourned will play three songs starting at 7 p.m. at Journey Coffee House in Paris, Texas. Adjourned plays Christian metal — heavy rock music with a Christian message to the lyrics. “Our goal as a Christian band is not only to talk about God but to try to get kids and teenagers — who lately haven’t been so Christian — to look into it and see that they can find salvation somehow,” Zen said.
