By Joanne Webster Contributing Writer At 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July, Soper’s Homecoming 2009 began with the annual parade. Riders from Choctaw, Pushmataha and Bryan counties took the reins, along with vintage cars, ATV’s and a variety of floats. During the barbecue, held behind the school, about 100 people visited under the shade trees. The Class of 1969 Reunion was a highlight of conversation. Following lunch was a turtle race and the evening’s activities began with gospel singing, then a street dance a few hours later. Float and other contest results were announced at the dance and will be reported sometime this week. |

HUGO — The minerals iron and manganese have been discoloring the water in some parts of Hugo. City Manager David Rawls said that the minerals are not harmful and do not affect drinkability. However, the minerals may affect clothes washed with bleach, leaving stains that are hard to get out. “We can treat the discoloration and should have it under control shortly,” Rawls said. |
