Harrison wins PRCA’s Comedy Act of the Year PDF Print E-mail

John Harrison, Soper resident and life-long cowboy, in December, found himself at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas for the annual PRCA Awards Dinner, which recognizes the best of the best in professional rodeo.

There, he was awarded the prestigious honor of becoming PRCA’s 2012 Comedy Act of the Year. Harrison has been selected to perform three times at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las, Nev. He has been in the Top 5 of this category for six years. Harrison has also been nominated for the Coors Man in the Can and for PRCA’s Clown of the Year.

 
Sheriff Park and staff busy with new policies and office facelift PDF Print E-mail

HUGO — Less than a month into his first term as Sheriff of Choctaw County, Terry Park and his staff have just completed a makeover of the department’s offices at the Courthouse, and are busy with routine calls and a few operational changes.

Sheriff Park has announced that Deputies Larry Hendrix and Ryan London (pictured at right) will be his two Chief Deputies. Hendrix will focus on investigations and training, and London will focus primarily on patrol and warrants.

Other deputies include Jody King, Daniel Teal, and K-9 officer Jason Thomas.

Thirteen-year department veteran clerk Candy Tollett has been moved to the position of administrative assistant, and Gwen Robertson will be office manager and 911 clerk.

Ask someone who has never set foot inside a museum, and they may define it as “a place where old stuff is kept.” That, my friends, is an understatement.

A museum is an institution in the service of society, which acquires and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity. It exists for the purpose of inspiration, education, and enjoyment. It is synonymous with: Antiquity, Artifact and Heirloom; it comes from a word of Latin origin dated back to 1605.

HUGO –– The Red Nose Cafe event was billed as: “fun, food and festivities” and it certainly hit the mark Friday evening in Hugo, “Circus City.” Playing to a full house, the third annual Red Nose Café fund-raiser, benefiting the Hugo Circus Museum and Park, was held at the Kiamichi Technology Center featuring international cuisine, live circus acts, door prizes, and a “Cutest Clown” contest for the youngsters.

Tatum Fancher, 5, of Hugo, won “Best Clown” and a brand new bicycle in the age 6 and under category. Koda Hudson, 9, also of Hugo, won the “Best Clown” and a brand new bicycle in the 7 through 12 age category. Koda and Tatum did some real clowning around with professional circus clown, Ryan Combs. The bicycles were donated by the Donaldson Ace Hardware store.

Some groups awarded include: Fort Towson’s senior large group act “Duck Blind.” Fort Towson’s Junior large group act for “My Baby Looks Good in Camoufl age.” Boswell’s Junior large group act (pictured above) for “Suds in a Bucket.” Soper’s Junior large group acts for “4-H Hoedown.” (Left) The presenters, ambassadors and county 4-H officers are: President Macy Maxwell, Co-Vice President Jacey Edwards, Co-Vice President Deanne Payne, Secretary Erica Brownfield, Reporter Amy Burkhalter, Recreation Leader Courtney Martin. Ambassadors are Maddie Morphis, Haley White, Micaella Church, Brianna Cayton, Regina Gorges and Cabrina Gorges.
