HUGO ––Members of the Hugo city council approved resolution No. 807 during Tuesday evening’s meeting, after a motion by councilman Bart Tedder, calling for a required election for council members for Ward 3, Ward 4 and an At-Large position.

The filing date for the April 2 election will be from Feb. 4 to Feb. 6. Councilmen currently filling these positions are Stan Payne, Layton Cox and Bart Tedder, respectively.

Negotiations to begin regarding new high school...

HUGO ––The Hugo board of education voted to re-employ current superintendent Karen Lyles Monday evening, following an executive session of approximately two hours.

Also approved by the board was the re-opening of the intermediate school, to begin with the 2013-2014 school year. Additional costs to the school district will be incurred to get the

building back to working order.

According to Lyles, fourth and fifth grades will be moved from their current location at the elementary school due to overcrowding.

The Boswell board of education presented a plaque of appreciation to outgoing board member, president Robbie Hitchcock on Thursday night.

Hitchcock spoke, expressing that he had seen the service as, “A blessing to me.”

Elementary principal Scott McCorstin reported for both the elementary and high school. The academic bowl area competition will be held in Kiowa on Jan. 12.

 
DPS warns of drivers license revocations for certain traffic offenses PDF Print E-mail

The Department of Public Safety is warning traffic law violators of new restrictions concerning traffic laws. House Bill 1507 which was signed by Governor Fallin on May 18, 2011 and took effect Nov. 1, 2011, calls for a mandatory one-year drivers license revocation for any licensee convicted of the following traffic offenses:

• Reckless driving without regard to the safety of others.

• Failure to stop for a school bus loading or unloading children.

• Failure to obey a traffic control device (or stop for stop sign) when such failure results in great bodily injury to any other person.

DPS sends a 30-day notice of license revocation to the last known address of the licensee.

 
Boswell FCCLA students compete in District STAR competition PDF Print E-mail

Eight students from Boswell’s junior high and high school recently competed in the Southeast III District STAR Events for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. Those students were Kyle Virden, Sadie Fomby, Hannah Manous, Jayme Edwards, Erika Van-Fossen, Dyani Shores, Courtney Fomby and Jacob West.
