HUGO — There was some intense discussion concerning the need for an architect’s inspection on the Boys & Girls Club project during Tuesday night’s Hugo city council meeting. City Manager David Rawls told the council that it has come to their attention that state law requires an architect to inspect the project, as it is being constructed/reconstructed. The law says that any public building more than $158,000 must have architect inspection and approval for occupancy. The statute also says that the architect is also required to sign all pay estimates. The architect, Shane Knight, was not present at the meeting, but Rawls said his estimate is $85 an hour for inspection. Engineer Brandon Wall said it will probably be about four hours total each time he comes out, including the drive from Durant. “Our goal is to have him come just once a month,” Wall said.
