HUGO — The one-cent sales tax election previously scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, has been canceled. District Attorney Lara Wallis notified the Choctaw County Board of County Commissioners Wednesday that the election had not been lawfully called. Apparently, state laws requiring that the public be notified about the election were not followed. The Choctaw County Commissioners have called a special meeting for 1 p.m. Friday for the specific purpose of: “consideration and possible action on resolution regarding canceling March 2, 2010 election due to DA opinion.” The meeting will be in the commissioners’ second floor offices at the courthouse and is open to the public.
