OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City attorney Stephen Jones has announced that he has been retained by Fred Holder, who was charged last week with the murder in the first degree in connection with the March 2009 shooting death of Jackie Dellinger.
Jones issued the following statement Wednesday:
“Mr. Fred Holder has retained me to represent him on the first degree murder charge filed Friday in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. I have entered my appearance with the court.
“Mr. Holder will enter a plea of not guilty and will demand a speedy trial.
“He is entitled to the presumption of innocence and all concerned citizens will not be influenced, we hope, by incomplete, self-serving and congratulatory statements by some law enforcement officials, who still are unhappy over Mr. Holder’s ultimate vindication of the murder charges that were brought against him in federal court.
“That incident was a tragic one for both families, and Mr. Holder acted in self defense.
“Whatever one thinks about that case it is not evidence that Mr. Holder was involved in any way with the tragic death of Mr. Dellinger.
“Nor will Mr. Holder be a scapegoat for those who sought to benefit by Mr. Dellinger’s death, and to blame him simply because he was a convenient target of the investigation.”
