By Joanne Webster Contributing Writer BOSWELL — Bob Johnson was voted to fill an empty seat on Boswell’s Town Council, during Wednesday night’s special meeting. An audit for 2008-2009 was presented by the Bobby Brown auditing firm of Denison, Texas. Brown representatives were not present. The audit was approved following inquiry from Henry Hopkins about the $40 filing fee, and the council’s use of a Texas firm. The council answered that the fee is customary. Hopkins inquired if the budget report with checks, balances and financial statements are still provided at each regular meeting by accountant Jean Ann Bacon and was answered that they were. The purchase of repeaters for both the fire and police departments was discussed, resulting in the decision to table the matter until the regular meeting. All voting was unanimous with none absent during both the town and PWA special meetings. There were no citizens in attendance. Following adjournment, Police Chief Bryon Gordon spoke about the dog acquired by the department. Jaro was introduced, following a three and a half month wait on the Lackland Air Force Base list. Dog food is donated by Orscheln’s stores and grooming donated through a Durant business along with occasional boarding. A one-time cost of travel and lodging near the base was paid for by the department. Veterinary care will be the responsibility of the department if needed. Seven animals were “interviewed” by Gordon. Each training year, 220 or more dogs are chosen and 40 do not “make the cut.” The 40 are deemed well suited for police work.
