| Choctaw County votes on renewal of 1 percent sales tax Tuesday |

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, for the Special Choctaw County Election concerning the renewal of the county 1-cent sales tax. The ballot reads: “Shall the voters of Choctaw County, state of Oklahoma continue a 1% sales tax, upon the gross proceeds or gross receipts derived from all sales and services in Choctaw County upon which a consumer’s sales tax is levied by the state of Oklahoma to be limited in duration for five years, and becoming effective June 1, 2010, and to expire June 1, 2015. The proceeds from this 1% sales tax shall be deposited in a cash fund account with the Choctaw County Treasurer and shall be earmarked and used for the following specific areas and percentage amounts: County Ambulance Authority: 18% County road improvement: 36% County law enforcement: 15% County general: 18% County economic development: 8% County extension service: 4% County libraries (maintenance and operations): 1%” A yes vote is for the proposition and a no vote is against.
