| ‘Amazing Race’ star speaks at Soper FFA banquet |

By Amber Hanneken Staff Writer SOPER — Jet McCoy, runner-up on Sunday’s “Amazing Race,” talked about the value of honesty and hard work during Soper’s FFA banquet Thursday evening in the gymnasium. “Honesty and hard work never go out of style,” said McCoy, who is a two-time world champion saddle bronc rider in the IPRA and two-time all around IPRA champion. He and his brother, Cord competed in the 16th season of the CBS reality show “The Amazing Race.” “Get involved and give it your best,” he said to the crowd of proud parents and students to whom a year of hard work paid off with the receipt of their awards. Students received recognition for their activities and proficiency awards. Star awards went to Brandon Reynolds for chapter greenhand and Misty Henderson for chapter farmer. Taylor Payne, Ashlyn Scott, Rebeckah Boykin, Shelby Dawes and Mattie Ferguson were all recognized for receiving their state FFA degrees. A highlight reel of the year’s activities in photo brought laughter and fond memories. In Scott’s presidential retiring address she focused on those memories and the lessons she will take with her beyond high school. She said although she will not likely pursue a career in farming, that the leadership and life skills she learned in the FFA would be invaluable to her future endeavors. The ceremony ended with the induction of the 2010-2011 chapter officers. The new officers are: President Emmlie Scroggins, Vice President Misty Henderson, Secretary Jackson Ferguson, Treasurer Kori Jeffreys, Reporter Haly Hammock, Sentinel Tanner McKee and Junior Advisor Mia McKee.
