Hugo firefighters responded to a second vacant apartment complex fire within a 24-hour span Wednesday night. This time the fire was on the corner of N. Broadway and Bluff Street. Early Wednesday morning, Hugo firefighters responded to an apartment fire on the corner of Duke and Second Street. Officials are not speculating on the causes of either fire or whether the two fires were related. Both fires are under investigation. Photo by Athelta Hopkins
HUGO-A vacant apartment complex on the corner of Duke and Second Street caught fire early Wednesday morning. Fire Chief Larry Lee said firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 1 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The property is owned by DMS Industries, Inc. and the registered agent is listed as Brent Smith. According to the Choctaw County Treasurer's office, The City of Hugo put a $300 clean-up lien on the property on Dec. 4, 2007.
