By Amber Hanneken Staff Writer HUGO — Homecoming festivities are a week away with the PRCA Rodeo parade beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 4. The theme of this year’s parade is “old time western days” and the chamber is seeking entries with that concept. Cash prizes will be given in the categories of “cutest cowgirl,” cutest cowboy,” “best wagon or buggy,” “best old car,” “best roundup club,” “best float,” “best dressed cowboy on horse” and “best dressed cowgirl on horse.” Deadline to register for the downtown parade is Thursday, June 3. Entry forms can be picked up at the Hugo Chamber of Commerce, call 580.326.7511 for more information. Chamber President Stacie Pace is requesting that area merchants make a special effort to beautify storefronts for the homecoming weekend. Pace suggested flying flags, placing flowers and encouraged sidewalk sales to drum up local business. The 49th annual Hugo PRCA rodeo begins at 8 p.m. Friday, June 4 and continues at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 5 at the Todd Whatley – Lige Hammock Rodeo Arena, North Fifth and Rena Street. Friday night is “Pink Night.” Attendees are encouraged to wear pink because the rodeo committee will be donating $1 for every person who wears pink to area women fighting breast cancer. So far, the committee has raised more than $1,000 for the cause. A dance at the Agriplex featuring local band Lost Highway will follow Saturday night’s rodeo. Class gatherings begin with registration from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5 at the Frisco Depot. An open house will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hugo High School. Classes celebrating reunions this year are: Fifth – Class of 2005, 10th – Class of 2000, 15th – Class of 1995, 20th – Class of 1990, 25th – Class of 1985, 30th – Class of 1980, 35th – Class of 1975, 40th – Class of 1970, 45th – Class of 1965, 50th – Class of 1960, 55th – Class of 1955, 60th – Class of 1950, 65th – Class of 1945, 70th – Class of 1940 and 75th – Class of 1935. The homecoming barbecue luncheon and class recognition program will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kiamichi Technology Center, located on East Jackson and 15th Street. Tickets are $15 per person. Master of ceremonies will be Lanny Nash, class of 1960. Fire trucks will be on display from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Tri-County Autoplex, with free hot dogs and musical entertainment. The 11th Annual Fire Truck parade begins at 2 p.m. Certificates will be awarded for “oldest unit,” “oldest unit still in service,” “newest unit,” “most units,” “unit traveling the farthest” and “best odd and unusual unit.”
