SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville residents are upset over a recent announcement by U.S. Postal officials, who say the town will be losing its post office. Officials will be on hand Tuesday, June 15, at the Spencerville Community Building to discuss citizen concerns. That meeting will be from 6 to 7 p.m. A letter to Spencerville postal patrons from Kim Kerns, manager of post office operations, says the facility will close on July 31. After that date, mail will be delivered to Sawyer or to Rattan, if postal patrons prefer. Kerns’ letter also stated: “A decision to permanently discontinue the post office has not been made.” His letter says the building lease would be terminated on July 31, due to an increase in cost. Building owner, Oleta Lawless, said the monthly rent on the building was only $125 and that included utilities. She asked for an additional $75 to help defray the cost of electricity.
