VALLIANT — Five fire departments responded to a fire that occurred Thursday afternoon at International Paper in Valliant.
Plant Human Resources Manager Nicole Cody said the fire happened in an outside bale storage unit where recycled cardboard is kept.
“There are employees in that area, but there haven’t been any injuries,” Cody said.
Firefighters from Broken Bow, Valliant, Idabel, Garvin and Sought, Texas all worked to contain the flames. Cody said the plant won’t know how much of the recycled material was lost or the cause of the fire until an investigation can be completed.
“Right now our focus is on making sure it’s contained and extinguished before conducting an investigation,” she said.
Operations continued as normal Friday morning.
