HUGO — Kevin Scott Warford, 37, of Hugo, has been charged with second-degree burglary, knowingly concealing stolen property and endangering human lives during commission of arson in connection with a stolen safe from Assembly of God Church.
Undersheriff Terry Park and Hugo Police Chief Jon Paul Bozeman investigated a break-in at the Assembly of God Church on Highway 271 Monday morning. Park said the suspect had stolen the church’s safe filled with offerings from Sunday morning’s service sometime late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
The officers narrowed the suspects to those who handled the church’s money and had access to the safe. Warford had been one of those people and had quit the church weeks prior to the incident, Park said. Park interviewed Warford Monday morning and found that his shoe tracks matched that of footprints left at the scene. By Monday afternoon, Judge Jamie Wolfe signed a search warrant for Warford’s residence on the 600 block of East Central.
