| Hugo Board of Education discusses plan to better Hugo schools |

By Krystle Taylor Assistant Editor HUGO –– The Hugo Board of Education met in regular session on Monday to discuss a variety of topics. Hugo Homecoming activities are happening this week and were the main focus of discussion from high school principal, Debbie Golden. Hugo High School has started an academic team and will host its first meet against Tushka at 3:30 Tuesday, Oct. 12. Also, Golden stated that picture retake day for the high school will be Friday, Oct. 15. Hugo High School enrollment is down prior to the last meeting. There are currently 1,206 students enrolled. Discussion on enrollment involved the future development of a plan to make Hugo schools a better place for the students and their families. “We have to make the students want to stay here. There needs to be more positive comments out in the public about Hugo schools,” said Mike Bloodworth. “Discipline issues need to be addressed promptly and proactively.” Discussion on a new trailer for the band was addressed and approved. Following a $1,519.25 contribution from the school, matched by a local donor and $850 from the booster club, a new trailer was purchased for the Hugo High School Band. After recessing to an executive session, the board members returned and no board action was taken. Daugherty suggested no action be taken on the litigation, football coach’s salary and the ABE Director position. These items may be discussed at the next scheduled meeting. Present were Dr. Mike Irvin, Joey Brindley, John Drake, Brad Greer and Mike Bloodworth.
