Contributing Writer Ask someone who has never set foot inside a museum, and they may define it as “a place where old stuff is kept.” That, my friends, is an understatement. A museum is an institution in the service of society, which acquires and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity. It exists for the purpose of inspiration, education, and enjoyment. It is synonymous with: Antiquity, Artifact and Heirloom; it comes from a word of Latin origin dated back to 1605. I invite you to visit the community of Fort Towson, founded in 1902, and located in Choctaw County, southeast Oklahoma, where stands, among several historic sites, the Museum of Decorative Arts. The Fort Towson Museum of Decorative Arts was founded by California resident, Mrs. Morynne Motley, in fond remembrance of her family and childhood in Fort Towson, and as a gift to this generation and future ones.
