By Krystle Taylor Lifestyles Editor HUGO — The 2009 Hugo PRCA Rodeo held its slack on Wednesday, June 3. Many contestants were entered including steer wrestler, Mickey Gee and calf roper, Jeff Chapman. Mickey Gee, the 1999 World Champion steer wrestler, jumped his first steer when he was 15 and has been a national finalist twice. As of now, he is ranked in the top 30 with around $17,000 in winnings. When asked about Mickey, spectators say, “he is very athletic, a great horseman, immensely strong and certainly an asset to the sport of rodeo –– he has no fear.” Jeff Chapman is a former $50,000 winner at the Calgary Stampede and has earned five qualifications in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. 1997 was an especially memorable year for Jeff. The season included his NFR appearance, and Chapman made the most out of his opportunity as he established an arena record as the fastest calf roping time ever recorded with a remarkable 6.8 seconds. Spectators say of Chapman, “not only is he an ultimate pro, but one of the steadiest, mistake-free ropers ever. In addition to being one of the fastest ropers to ever come along.” Unfortunately, both cowboys received a no-time on Wednesday night. Calf roper, Scott Kormos is leading his event in the Hugo PRCA rodeo with a time of 8.4 seconds. The second place run was not far behind with Stockton Graves tying his calf in 8.8 seconds. Daniel Adams pulled ahead of the steer wrestlers with a time of 3.3 seconds. Trailing him is Cody Charmasson with a time of 4.2 seconds.
