The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Choctaw County, was an occasion for celebration on Friday. Teams, committees, chairs, sponsors and volunteers work tirelessly toward the event throughout the year.
This year’s agenda held the following: Survivor recognition and the Lap of Hope, the caregiver lap, the team lap, after which at least one member of each team stays on the track until the close at midnight and a Survivor dinner. Eugene Keeling and band took the stage and Hugo Gymnastics and More teams performed. A live auction was conducted. The luminaria ceremony was conducted. There was also a ‘Hot Babe’ contest, a frozen t-shirt contest, games and team awards.
The Diamond sponsor was recognized. Representing the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma
were Ernest and Linda Oakes. The Choctaw Nation contributed $10,000.
Two individuals who raised $1,000 each were recognized ––Crystal Grammer and Rosemary Thorne. There are approximately 30 sponsors at varying levels.
The chair is Stormy Thorne, co-chair Wendy Johnson. Marla Barnes was the emcee, speaker and performer for the National Anthem.
Relay for Life is the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who are battling cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. To contact the organization, call 1.800. ACS. 2345.
