BOSWELL ––A Choctaw County woman has been charged with felony shooting with the intent to kill after police say she shot her mother in the face early Saturday morning in the 700 block of Fifth St. in Boswell.
Boswell Police report that 20-year old Skyler Mote shot five rounds at her mother, Melissa Covington, with a .32 revolver, with one round striking her in the face, just above the lip.
Mote then proceeded to throw the gun at Covington before driving away in Covington’s Chevrolet pickup, reports state. Covington was rushed to Choctaw Memorial Hospital, where she was then airlifted to a Tulsa hospital.
Hugo Police offi cers were able to pull over and detain Mote on US 70 and 4260 Rd. in Hugo where she told offi-cers she was on her way to Fort Towson to kill her ex-boyfriend before realizing she left the gun and ammo, reports stated.
According to reports, Mote told the officers she and her mother had been arguing. Then her mother left and she waited on the porch with the pistol for four hours before her mother returned and she opened fire.
When asked what her intentions were, Mote claimed, “I was trying to kill her. I’ve had thoughts of killing my mother (Covington) in the past, but never carried it out.”
Mote is being held in the Choctaw County Jail on two felony charges: Shooting with intent to kill and unauthorized use of a vehicle. She will go before the judge Tuesday for a bond hearing and to schedule an initial appearance.
