|Valliant Watermelon Festival kicks off Friday|

Valliant is ready for its 12th annual Watermelon Festival, “Watermelon on the Beach,” which will kickoff at 10 a. m. Friday, July 26 with a basketball tournament.
Other events include a pancake breakfast, quilt show, photography contest and show, a magic clown, children’s activities and storytelling, spelling bee, various vendors, door prizes and a car show.
Festival favorites will be back, including the sawdust scramble, the horseshoe tournament, turtle races, Dash-Hound races, seed spitting contests, watermelon eating and other watermelon activities.
The festival parade will be held downtown beginning at 6 p. m. More than $700 is available in prizes for commercial and non-commercial floats, tractors, horses, 4-wheelers,
autos, strollers and wagons, motorcycles, kids with leashed pets, bicycles, etc. The deadline to enter is 3 p. m. Friday.
