By Amber Hanneken Staff Writer HUGO — An old suitcase filled with stagnant water, half of a recliner, a mattress, torn clothing, old carpeting, broken bottles, a set of drawers and a traffic cone — some of the typical junk you may find at a trash dump, but in Hugo these items are piled directly behind the Gene Nesbit Stadium where unwelcomed trash has accumulated. The school uses the area as a fill site for piling brush, but some have been using it as a personal dumpsite for various types of trash and building materials. “That’s the only place we have to take our tree limbs, dirt, logs and stuff like that,” Superintendent Tony Daugherty said. “We don’t put trash out there.” Daugherty said the locks have been continuously cut on the gate meant to keep vehicles from driving up to the area. “I’d appreciate it if people wouldn’t dump their trash back there,” Daugherty said. About this time of year, the school takes a bulldozer to the area to push back the fill. The school uses the wood stored on the site for bonfires.
