HUGO — The Oklahoma Fellowship of Cowboy Churches is holding its ranch rodeo finals in Hugo, Saturday, Oct. 3, which will be hosted by Cowboy Crossing Church of Hugo. Top ranch rodeo teams from Cowboy Churches all over the state of Oklahoma will compete for saddles, buckles and other prizes. The event is free to the public and will be held at the Hugo Rodeo Arena. Breakfast will be served beginning at 9 a.m. and the ranch rodeo begins at 10 a.m. There will be chuck wagon cooking, music and concessions available throughout the day. An auction will be for held for Tripp Taylor, infant son of Ernie and Krystle Taylor of Hugo, to raise money for medical expenses. The Oklahoma Fellowship of Cowboy Churches is an organization that helps to start cowboy churches across the state and bring them together for fellowship, support and encouragement within the cowboy culture. Any cowboy church is welcome to be a part. “The cowboy churches are growing by leaps and bounds in Oklahoma,” said Mike Merritt, preacher of Cowboy Crossing Church of Hugo and associate director of the Oklahoma Fellowship of Cowboy Churches. The group has started eight churches this year and 12 more are in the works. Cowboy Crossing Church of Hugo has been conducting services on Sunday mornings for more than a year. On average, 100 or more are in attendance and 17 have been baptized this year. Services are held at 10:30 a.m. with coffee and donuts at 10 a.m. Their outreach ministries include the ranch rodeos, play days, free concerts and a chuck wagon ministry.
