HUGO — The Hugo chapter of Oklahoma Home and Community Education kicked off its “Just Let Them Know We Care” troop drive Oct. 1 and will continue through November. The organization will be sending letters of support and care packages to troops overseas.
Items needed for care packages may include microwaveable/non-perishable foods, hot chocolate, packaged instant coffees, drink mixes, snack items that fit easily into pockets and won’t melt, individually wrapped candies, personal care items like sun screen, combs, lotions, dental floss and eye drops, phone cards, puzzle books, books, magazines, board games, playing cards, DVDs and CDs.
Donation boxes will be placed at City Drug, The Trophy Case, The Nail Shop, Family Dollar Store and Orscheln. Collection boxes will be shipped no later than Dec. 11.
Anyone who would like to have their loved one included in the project or anyone who would like to make a cash/check donation may call Linda Knight at 580.326.7773.
Hugo Home and Community Education members participate in voluntary community projects and have canning, sewing and cooking classes along with many other activities. Their meetings are held on the second Monday of each month. The organization welcomes new members.
