‘Mayor of Cooksville’ arrested after firing at officers

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– A Choctaw County man was arrested Monday after firing a small-caliber weapon and pointing it at Sheriff Terry Park.
The self-proclaimed “mayor of Cooksville,” 61-year-old Newton Cook, Jr., was arrested on complaints of feloniously pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest.
