Local law enforcement and firefighters met with Rodney Timms, an author and advocate for child abuse Wednesday morning as part of his stand against child abuse road trip. Timms works with organizations such as the Oklahoma institute for Child Advocacy (OICA) and Childhelp USA to raise awareness about child abuse and to support prevention efforts. He has written two books regarding child abuse and the child abuse he experienced from the ages of 4 to 15, when his father nearly beat him to death. Timms was escorted to the Choctaw County Courthouse Wednesday morning, as Choctaw County became No. 22 of the 77 Oklahoma Counties he plans to visit during his stand against child abuse.
