On Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, Kathryn “Kay” Stone Horn passed away at the age of 89. She was born in Caledonia, Texas, to Levi and Carrie Stone on May 3, 1930.

After living in several countries around the world and also in Texas, Kay moved to Shoals, Okla., in the early 1990s. She was known for her bold spirit, sense of humor and generosity. Kay loved to bake and cook and was always creating and concocting her new ideas and recipes in the kitchen. She particularly enjoyed sharing those dishes and treats with family and friends. Kay had the greenest of green thumbs and took joy in tending to both her vegetable and flower gardens. Digging in the earth and mowing her grass were two of her favorite activities. Kay’s loving heart extended not only to her family and friends but all animals from wild and exotic creatures to lost or unwanted cats and dogs. She was always willing to take them in and care for them.

Kay was preceded in death by her siblings: Shirley Bonner, Alice Kysler, Gayle Kindle, Hal Stone, Jackie Stone and her only daughter, Phyllis Lucas Prowse. She is survived by her sister, Linda Stone; her granddaughters: Tegan Lucas and Amanda Lucas-Blackall; her great-grandsons: Gavin Johnson and Bennett Blackall, and several nieces and nephews. Kay always appreciated the loving care Dr. Stana Pope showed her pets and was proud to call Becky White and Carol Zimmerman her dear friends.

There will be no service per her wishes, but if you wish to honor her, please donate to your local animal shelter or humane society.
