Sen. Lankford proposes border deal

Body
Sen. James Lankford, (R-Okla.), blasted last week’s leak of a draft border and immigration deal — which reportedly would allow 5,000 migrants per day into the US — as a “lie.” “A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on,” Lankford posted on X on Saturday, citing a quote from the English Baptist minister Charles Spurgeon.

Race to call Iowa results angers media

Body
Media spark outrage by calling Iowa early . . . Just 31 minutes after the Iowa caucuses began, the Associated Press already had its final results: a victory for former President Donald Trump. The early call ignited a firestorm of criticism from Trump’s opponents and even some Democrats who questioned the decision. Several other major news outlets called the election in Trump’s favor shortly after 7:30 p.m. local time before some voters even had the chance to cast their ballots at their local precinct. The call sparked outrage among some candidates’ campaigns who argued the call amounted to “election interference” that disenfranchised voters who waited in line in the freezing to choose their preferred nominee.

You never know what you’re gonna get.”’ It’s pretty safe to say that as we stick our toes into the shallow edges of the new year — 2024, we can’t foresee all the twists and turns that lie ahead or how turbulent the waters might ultimately become in the coming year.
