Although it’s the interim, things are still busy at the Capitol as we are already preparing for the next legislative session. Budget leaders are already crunching numbers to see what the 2023 fiscal year budget may look like, and members of the Select Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee are busy reviewing the budgets of the more than 50 state agencies that don’t receive legislative appropriations.

St. Rep explores eliminating grocery tax

OKLAHOMA CITY – House Minority Leader Emily Virgin, D-Norman, filed an interim study request Tuesday to examine the benefits of ending the state sales tax on groceries. Eliminating the tax was a key component of House Democrats’ Oklahoma Focused Budget this past session.

• America’s Drive-In thanked public school teachers by donating $1.5 million to requests for learning supplies across the country To honor the creative efforts teachers have made to maneuver their ever-shifting learning environments and keep students engaged this past year, SONIC Drive-In donated $1.5 million to teacher requests on national education nonprofit site DonorsChoose on Teacher Appreciation Day, May 4. As part of SONIC’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, the $1.5 million donation helped fund more than 7,000 teacher requests across the country in need of critical resources, including a special teacher in Hugo, Okla., who received a combined donation of $75.
