CITY AND LAW OFFICIALS held a public meeting last Thursday to update citizens about current crime in Hugo. Approximately 20 people were in attendance to ask questions and give advice. Hugo Police Chief John Mitchell reminded the public about the city’s curfew. According to Mitchell, the cufew is from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekends. “We’ve got to develop trust between the community and law enforcement,” Mitchell said. “Come talk to me... we’ll shut the door and talk about anything. If it will save a life, I’ll try anything.”

School board elections held April 5; early voting starts Thursday

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, for the Choctaw County School Board Elections. Not all Choctaw County school districts are having school board elections, only Fort Towson, Rattan, Soper and Valliant School Districts will be participating in elections on April 5. Early voting will be at the County Courthouse on Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The North Star Texas Coin Club will present a coin show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, 3535 Lamar Ave. Free appraisals will be offered. Admission and parking are also free, and security will be provided. Several vendors will be on hand showcasing U.S., world and ancient coins as well as paper money, tokens, medals and collectibles.
