Center applauds steps to make crop insurance more accessible

In a win for producers across the country, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency recently announced changes to two crop insurance programs –– Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) and Micro Farm. The improvements will expand access to risk management options for thousands of producers, particularly those with small or diversified operations.

Lawmakers approve drought relief for farmers, ranchers

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Legislature has appropriated $20 million to aid the agriculture industry across the state during the ongoing drought. House Bill 1006XX designates $20 million to the Emergency Drought Relief Fund from any monies not otherwise appropriated from the General Revenue Fund of the State Treasury.

Reservations now available for Doaksville Historic Candlelight tours

FORT TOWSON –– Experience the history of southeastern Oklahoma at the annual Doaksville Historic Candlelight Tours. Tours will be held Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the last tour departing at 9:30 p.m. A guide will take visitors on a 45-minute walking tour through the streets of this once prominent town. The venues on the tour will cover specific historic events in Doaksville’s history. Doaksville served as the capital of the Choctaw Nation intermittently after 1850 and regularly from 1858 to 1863. Guests will learn about the history of the area from the perspective of Fort Towson Commander Josiah H. Vose. McCURTAIN COUNTY –– On September 30, 2022, Special Agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, arrested John Wesley Smith for the 1993 murder of John Randall O’Steen.
