The Nov. 29 article in the Hugo News regarding “Six Paris teens arrested after Hugo house shot up” incorrectly mentioned a stolen firearm from the Paris Police Department. The firearm was actually reported stolen by the Paris Police Department, not from.

On Wednesday, Nov. 29, 4-H members from across Choctaw and Pushmataha Counties were rewarded for their accomplishments throughout the 2022-2023 year at the Choctaw and Pushmataha County 4-H Banquet in Hugo.

The Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC) has launched the Soil Health Implementation Program (SHIP), a new initiative to improve soil health across Oklahoma’s agricultural landscapes. Approved unanimously by the Commission on Dec. 12, SHIP aims to provide comprehensive soil conservation solutions in both rural and urban areas The program, led by the OCC’s Soil Health Team, focuses on conservation practices that build land and operation resilience by improving ecosystem health. It combines technical assistance and financial incentives to encourage the adoption of soil health practices among agricultural producers. SHIP offers up to $40,000 over three years to approved applicants aiming to make a significant impact on their soil conservation.

Choctaw County’s own John Harrison took another “triple crown” during the 65th annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo awards ceremony in Las Vegas. He was awarded Comedy Act of the Year, Coors Man in the Can and Clown of the Year.

HUGO — An area man has been arrested after law-enforcement officials learned that he had more than 100 separate child pornography images or videos on his cell phone. According to a report by Choctaw County Deputy Cody Britt (1204), Clyde Park Crews, III, was booked into the county jail on three felony counts, including: pornography, procure, produce, distribute, possess juvenile pornography; obscene material, publish, distribute, participate; aggravated possession of child pornography.

HUGO — Four men who were all confined in the Choctaw County jail have been charged with aggravated assault and battery, a felony, according to charges filed by Choctaw County Assistant District Attorney Tom Sawyer.

There will only be one candidate race in February –– Hugo School Board. The candidates are: Michele Frazier Dama McLemore Carzelle Smith.

HUGO — The Lady Buffaloes are 1-2 one week into the season after a game one win over Henryetta and losses to Wright City and Broken Bow. Hugo started the season on a high note with a 48-44 road win over Henryetta, but head coach David Vann walked away from the game disappointed in the change in his team from the second quarter on.

Hugo kicked off the season with a nail-biting, 74-68 win over Henryetta before falling to Wright City, (43-38) and Broken Bow, (70-60) in the Broken Bow Classic.

As Native American Heritage Month has just slipped past us, I’d like to share the story of a football game played Nov. 9, 1912 between Army and Carlisle Indian School at West Point, N.Y. This is an epic story, and I hope I can do it justice.
