City of Hugo places stop signs at Fifth and Bluff

The Hugo city council approved a motion last Tuesday to place stop signs at Fifth and Bluff Streets after residents spoke up with concerns about the safety of children in the area. The motion passed on a 3-2 vote, with Mayor Ernest McCarty and Darren Frazier voting against it, and councilmembers Tina Bunn, Juanita Latimore and Josh Armes voting in favor.

TALIHINA — Faced with the prospect that their land could be taken away from them by an out-of-state corporation wanting to use Kiamichi River water to make electricity to be exported to Texas, area property owners did not mince words Thursday about their strong opposition to a proposed closed-loop, hydroelectric project.
