In most of the nation, all you need to do is to step outside to feel one of Oklahoma’s deadliest hazards: extreme heat. So far in 2024, the dangers of heat illness have killed 34 workers both indoors and out.

The 2023 Oklahoma Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) indicates a 77% decrease in cigarette smoking among teens from 2013-2023. Additionally, the data reveals that 54% of public high school students reported never having vaped, and 78% didn’t vape during the 30 days before the survey.

Funeral services for Dorothy Louise Hughes, of Ringold, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at Sobol Baptist Church in Sobol, Okla. Dorothy passed away Aug. 27, 2024, at the age of 89. Dorothy Louise (Miller) Hughes was born on Sept. 30, 1934 in Newkirk, Okla., the daughter of Frank Lewis Miller and Margaret Louise (Matney) Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Miller; sister, Wanda Ensey and stepson, John Hughes.
