The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, as the first batching date for applications submitted for Fiscal Year 2025 funding through either the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) or Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

Choctaw County EMS sends crew to Florida to assist with hurricane aftermath

OKLAHOMA CITY – State legislators from southeastern Oklahoma praised the efforts of local emergency medical service workers currently assisting with the Hurricane Milton response in Florida. Crews from Bryan County Emergency Medical Services, Choctaw County Ambulance Authority, Johnston County Emergency Medical Services, Marshall County Emergency Medical Services, Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service and Oklahoma Gas & Electric left Sunday, Oct.

Edward Johnson, of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 14 out of 18 games correctly. Johnson guessed closest (400) to the OU Sooners’ total yardage (406) to beat out Bobby Yandell, Tim Loftin, David Prickett and Cathy Stanfield. Johnson will collect the $50 weekly prize from First United Bank, where he obtained his winning entry blank. A picture will be taken for next week’s Hugo News. Five young ladies will vie for the crown during the Hugo Buffaloes’ Homecoming celebration Friday at Gene Nesbit Stadium. They include (l to r): Libby Park, Gracie Armstrong, Averie Mitchell, Alivia Holiday and Halle Thomas. The coronation ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday before the 7 p.m. kickoff. A parade will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, as well as a pep rally and bonfire at 7.

Contributing Sports Writer The Soper Lady Red Bears are headed to the State softball playoffs. The Class B Regional Champions swept through the regional playoffs with a dominating combined total score of 31-3.
SOPER’S LADY RED BEARS were jubilant after their big Regional Championship victory last week earning them a trip to the State Playoffs! Members of the team include: Hadley Campbell, Emalyn Searles, Morgan Harless, Shy’Anne Wolfe, Makayla Carriger, Kirsten Harless, Alexis Hill, Kobi Rice, Alexia Rouse, Kinlee Carriger, Aubrey Harless, Kaylea Potter, Kabrey Harless, Brinley Williams, Coach Clay Mack and Coach Mark Hammock.
