Sam David Morris

Funeral services for Sam David Morris were held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025 at Valliant Church of God. Sam went to his heavenly home on Nov. 22, 2025, at the age of 79.

Sam was born on March 12, 1949 in Ringold, Okla., the son of J.C. Morris and Rosie Almida Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ron Morris; and sisters: Lucille Staggs, Jo Ann Sisk and Peggy Whisenhunt.

Sam was a life long resident of McCurtain County. He married his wife, Jean Autrey, on Oct. 27, 1995, and they made their home in Garvin. Sam spent many years behind the wheel as a truck driver, a profession he took great pride in.

Outside of work, Sam was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies for him; they were a way of life. He often shared stories of his adventures, recounting early mornings on the lake and quiet afternoons in the woods.

However, the cornerstones of Sam’s life were truly his faith and his family. He was a member of the Valliant Church of God and enjoyed learning about the word of God. Family is something that Sam truly cherished and spending time with his loved ones was something he truly enjoyed.

Sam is survived by his family; wife, Jean Morris of Garvin; sons: David Morris and Jason Morris and wife; daughter, Chasidy Morris; stepson, Edger Bryant and wife; stepdaughters: Julie Capps and Kimberly Goodman and husband; brothers: Buddy Morris and wife and Vic Morris; sisters: Francis Cunningham and Ethel Rushing; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Battiest Cemetery, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
