Carl Junior Bumpass
Carl Junior Bumpass, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, was called to his eternal rest on Dec. 3, 2025, at the age of 87, in Boswell, Okla. Born on Oct. 19, 1938, in Santa Rosa, Calif., to Clifton and Mary Ann Bumpass (nee Cummings). Carl’s life was a testament to his faith, love for his family, and dedication to a lifetime of hard work and service of others.
A proud veteran of the US Navy, where he served with distinction and reached the rank of E4, Carl embodied the principles of service and sacrifice. After his time in the Navy, Carl spent 31 years raising his family, working as an architect and builder in California. In his retirement, Carl embraced the life of a rancher, a vocation that allowed him to work the land he so dearly loved. Raising cattle and tending to the earth, Carl found peace in the rhythms of nature, from raking hay to planting trees and gardening. Carl also loved to read, and to watch shows about nature.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Judith Diane Bumpass (nee Snyder), and together they nurtured a family that would be his greatest legacy. Carl’s love and wisdom live on through his daughter, Dawn Kori Nearing, and her husband, David; his beloved granddaughters: Hali Anne and Amber Lynn Nearing; his son, Kurt Christian Bumpass, with his wife, Hong Thi Phuong Bumpass. He was a cherished brother to Marieta Chapman and Hubert “Earl” Bumpass. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Mary Ann, and his wife, Judith Diane, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Carl’s life was a reflection of his values: hard work, commitment to family and faith. His presence was a comfort, his counsel sought after, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and faith that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
As we honor the life of Carl Junior Bumpass, the family will receive visitors on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025 from 5 to 7 in the evening at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo. His legacy will be treasured forever.
