Roland Ruel Dancer passed away on July 22, 2026 in Paris, Texas, at the age of 95.
Roland was born on April 27, 1931 in Boswell, Okla., to Bradley Dancer and Irene (Elmore) Dancer. He lived a long and full life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a steady, hardworking spirit that touched all who knew him. He was a Christian man whose faith and values guided the way he lived each day.
Roland served in the United States Army, where he completed foreign service in Germany. He carried the experiences of his service with him throughout his life, and he often looked back on those years with appreciation for the places he saw and the people he met.
After returning home from military service, Roland began a long career with Houston Belt and Terminal Railway. He worked faithfully until his retirement, earning the respect of those alongside whom he labored.
Outside of work, Roland found great joy in the outdoors. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, and gardening, and he especially appreciated time spent in nature. He loved to travel, and during his service he went around the world, an experience that added to the richness of his life and reflected his adventurous spirit. Roland was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Dancer, as well as his brother, Jerry Dancer; his sister, Robbie Baldwin; and his parents, Bradley Dancer and Irene (Elmore) Dancer. He is survived by his sister, Jan Higginbotham and husband of Hugo; a sister- in-law; a brother-in-law; a niece and great-nephew; a nieces and husband and great-niece; a niece and husband, along with great-niece and great-nephew.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, 202 in the Restland Cemetery in Boswell, with Military Honors. Pastor Steven Harris officiated the service, under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
