Annette (Peters) Smith, 81, returned to her heavenly home after a valiant battle with a long illness on Oct. 1, 2020. The devotion of her friends and her firm faith in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Annette was born to the late Wesley Peters and Thelma (Knight) Peters on Jan. 1, 1939 in Matory, Okla., (near Bennington, Okla.). She married the love of her life, C. Ray Smith, on May 15, 1971 in Garland, Texas. They later settled in Fort Towson, Okla., and became members of Shoals Baptist Church.

A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Annette retired from Western Farmers Electric Cooperative and spent many tranquil days with her loving family and friends.

Annette is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her step-children: Ronald Smith of Hugo and Sheila Church of Hugo; grandchildren: Jeff Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Jill Fitch and husband, Ray of McKinney, Texas, Christopher Smith and wife, Crystal of Longview, Texas, Casey Church and wife, Dana of Hugo, Josh Church of Hugo, Sarah Church and husband, Brian Hancock of Knoxville, Tenn., and many greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as treasured friends: Sam and Beverly Hanson and Buzz and Anna Easterwood.

Annette touched the lives of many people with her warmth and generosity, and maintained her trademark smile all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020 at Shoals Baptist Church.

Services were under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
