Funeral services for Doris Mae Gist, of Seminole, Okla., were held Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
Doris Mae Gist, 87, went to her heavenly home on June 2, 2026, passing in Seminole, Okla., surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 12, 1938 in Manchester, Texas, the daughter of Floyd Dean and Stella Mae (Roberts) Hanley. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert Gist; brother, Clarence “Bud” Hanley; sisters: Jean Gordon, Margie Black and Lois Ruffin; son, Doyle Dewayne Murphy; daughter, Doris Jean “Jeanie” Cameron; grandsons: Kaleb Hill and Zack Hale; and honorary granddaughter, Laure Jane Land.
Doris worked as an in-home care giver for elderly adults for many years. She truly had a servant’s heart and cared for many until retiring at 74. She also devoted much of her life to her home and family, where she served faithfully as a homemaker. She understood the value of creating a welcoming place, and she took pride in the many ways she made her home a center of love, comfort and togetherness. Doris found great enjoyment in traveling, and she appreciated the experiences, memories and conversations that came with seeing new places. She also enjoyed gambling, which added excitement and entertainment to her life. In the kitchen, Doris found another source of joy, and she was known for cooking with care and love. Above all, Doris took great joy in spoiling her grandkids. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Doris is survived by her loving family; daughter, Diane Houck and husband, Richard; her sister, Pat Sanford; grandchildren: Audrey Hill, LaShawna Harbeston, Barbara Murphy, Natalie Hale, Stephen Houck, Martha Cauley; great-grandchildren: Amber Collis, Ashley Hill, Tracy Lugo, Ashlyn Driver, Heather Cauley, Wanda Cauley, Melanie Nelson, Jasper Francis, Nathan Houck, Nevaeh Hale, Abigail Hale and Cameron Hale; great-great-grandchildren: Braelynn Ethridge, Jeracho Garien, Anthony Lugo, Kaiser Hamilton, Lailah Driver, Brison Cauley, Paislee Cauley, Tripp Nelson and Zachary Roach; honorary grandsons: Doug Land and Rainey Land; along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Interment followed the service at Watson Cemetery, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
