Fred Averill Burns, Jr.

Services for Fred Averill Burns, Jr., were held Monday, July 27, 2026 in Hugo, Okla., at the Oak Grove Baptist Church officiated by Kyle Cummins.

Burns passed away July 23, 2026 in Hugo, at the age of 88.

Proud to be a 6th generation Texan, Fred was preceded in death by his father Fred Burns and mother, Virginia Goodwin Burns. He is survived by his wife, LaCinda Stanfield Burns. Fred leaves sons, Brian, Thomas and John. He is also survived by stepchildren, Stewart Stanfield, Colene Fisher, Darla King and Wanda Daniels and brother, Ronald Burns.

Fred spent 46 years in finance and banking. He was a member of numerous professional and civic organizations in San Antonio, Leon Valley and Helotes, Texas. After retirement, Fred moved to the beautiful Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas, then to Hugo. Fred continued to be involved in the Lord’s work as a hospice volunteer. Staying busy, Fred continued his interest in genealogy, finding himself directly descendant from Myles Standish and Edward Doty, passengers on the Mayflower, and Jesse Grimes, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Burial, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Hugo, followed the services at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas.
