Ilona Jean (Griggs) Daniels
Funeral services for Ilona Jean (Griggs) Daniels, of Hugo, Okla., were held July 26, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hugo.
Ilona Jean (Griggs) Daniels entered into eternal life in the presence of the Lord on July 20, 2025 at the age of 60. She was born on Oct. 19, 1964 in Fort Lee, Va., the daughter of Kenneth Griggs and Helma (Selmisch) Griggs. Ilona was preceded in death by her father.
Ilona had lived in Hugo for the past 13 years. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in political science at Slippery Rock University before embarking on a successful career as an entrepreneur and later channeled her passion into the world of real estate. Ilona married her loving husband, Michael Daniels on June 27, 2020 in Hugo and was a devoted wife and mother.
Ilona was an artist at heart and found joy in painting, capturing the beauty of the world around her. She found solace in the simple pleasures of being outdoors, whether it was collecting unique rocks, watching birds or enjoying the company of her beloved animals. Ilona had a passion for learning and extensive knowledge in various fields. She was fluent in English, German and Italian, which allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life. She loved to hike and play golf and embraced every opportunity to challenge herself mentally and physically.
Ilona’s faith was the essence of her being. As a devout Catholic, she consecrated herself to Mary, the Blessed Mother, and lived her life as a testament to her love for the Lord. Her faithfilled journey was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her actions spoke of a woman who truly walked in the light of Christ. Ilona had a heart of gold and genuinely loved to serve others. Ilona will be remembered as a woman of great passion and love and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Ilona is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Daniels; mother, Helma Griggs; son, Julian Griggs and wife, Kenya of Pasadena, Calif.; stepson, Jonah Michael Montgomery; grandsons: Apollo Griggs and Adonis Griggs, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
In remembrance of Ilona’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Choctaw County Public Library.
Interment followed the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Calif., with Father Bryan Ketterer officiating with Altar Server Earl Ballard. Services were under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
