Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Stigler Cemetery. Jane completed her earthly journey on Feb. 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family in Sherman, Texas.
Born on Feb. 15, 1951 in Poteau, Okla., Jane’s life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit, thoughtful nature, and selfless devotion to those she loved. After graduating from Stigler High School in the Class of 1969, Jane furthered her education at the University of Oklahoma. Her heart found its match when she married her beloved husband, Dennis F. Porter, on Jan. 24, 1970, in her hometown. The young couple welcomed their daughter, Dana and son, Matt into the world and nurtured a family marked by love and laughter. The Porter family planted their roots in Valliant, Okla., in 1976 and later moved to Hugo in 1979, where they created countless cherished memories.
For over three decades, Jane dedicated her career to serving others through her work at the Department of Human Services for the State of Oklahoma. Her commitment to community service extended beyond her professional life as she was an active and cherished member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Jane’s leadership as the head of the benevolence committee reflected her generous spirit and her desire to help those in need.
Jane’s interests and hobbies painted a picture of a woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her collection of Santa figurines was a source of pride and joy, and her love for reading and solving crossword puzzles provided her with countless hours of peaceful reflection. In her earlier years, Jane enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, and she carried on the tradition of making candy, much to the delight of her family and friends. As an enthusiastic supporter of the University of Oklahoma, Jane’s spirit and passion were evident in her unwavering support for her team.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis, of the home; her treasured daughter, Dana Sutterfield of Inavale, Neb., her loving son, Matt Porter of Springdale, Ark. Each of them embodies the values and love that Jane instilled within their hearts.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025 pm in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
