Mary Francis Cunningham

Funeral services for Mary Francis Cunningham were held Monday, Dec. 22, 2025 at Rufe Baptist Church. Mary passed away Dec. 17, 2025, at the age of 78.

Mary Francis (Morris) Cunningham was born on Feb. 21, 1947 in Pickens, Okla., the daughter of J.C. Morris and Rosie Almida Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 33 years, Dwayne Cunningham; a grandson; brother, Sam Morris; and sisters: Lucille Staggs, Jo Ann Sisk, and Peggy Whisenhunt.

Francis was a lifelong resident of McCurtain County and was a graduate of Battiest High School. She married the love of her life, Dwayne Cunningham, on Oct. 5, 1990 in DeQueen, Ark.

Francis enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with her husband, Dwayne. Together, they always had a large garden and even built their house from the ground up; it was something that made them both very proud. Most of all, she loved her family beyond measure and spending time with them brought her so much joy. Francis is survived by her children: David Scarberry of Ringold, Okla., Marilyn Ashlock of Boswell, Okla., and Nett Wright of Wilson, Okla.; brothers: Buddy Morris and wife and Vic Morris; sister, Ethel Rushing; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones. Interment followed the service at Rufe Cemetery, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
