Mary L. Prater Martin

Funeral services for Mary Louise (Prater) Martin, fondly known as Grandmary, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025 in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel, with Shawn Scott and Pastor Doug McClure officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Okla. Mary passed peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Mary was born on Nov. 26, 1941 in Hornersville, Mo., to William C. Berryhill and Mary Sue (Dunn) Berryhill. Her family later moved to Soper, Okla.

 Mary is survived by her husband, Troy Martin of Paris, Texas; her two daughters: Dawna Lindley of McAlester, Okla., and Jeanne Scott and her husband, Shawn of Soper, Okla., as well as her sister, Sue Wilkins of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Grandmary’s legacy continues through her five grandchildren: Colton Scott and wife, Kori, Chance Scott, Logan Lindley, Traton Lindley and Tonya Martin. Mary was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Pryce, Conley, Curry and Leddy Jo Scott. Another great-grandchild, Baby Layla Martin, will arrive in late May.

She was fondly known as Aunt Mary to many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary worked in the field of nursing for 50 plus years, where she found joy in caring for others. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
